On casting Kiara, Karan Johar said, "I knew no one's mother would say yes to such a strong female character. But this character was a very powerful character expressing the desires of women. That's when I went to Manish Malhotra's party. I met Kiara. Actually. I knew her then as Alia Advani. After the first meeting, I asked her to come to the office."
